The American Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid (WRFA) program is an outdoor oriented first aid training program. This is a minimum 16-hour first aid course for backcountry situations when EMS is not readily available.

The "Wilderness & Remote First Aid" program is designed especially for High Adventure Back Country or When Help is Delayed situations. Typical students include Venturing Crews, Venture Patrols and older Scouts as well as Scouters supporting an advanced outdoor "high adventure" program. All outdoors enthusiasts are welcome.

The course includes classroom presentations and skills practice as well as outdoor activities including realistic scenarios and other problem solving opportunities. This program will be held as an overnighter at Collin County Adventure Camp in Anna, Texas – camping space is available for Friday and Saturday evenings.

The course fee is $75.00 per person, which includes: course materials, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.

Registration and fee must be received by March 24, 2012 – no exceptions.

NO WALK-INS - Class Starts Saturday at 7:45 AM. Sign in starts @ 7:15 AM

Those who successfully complete this class will receive a "Wilderness & Remote First Aid" certification. The course has two prerequisites; Students must be 14 years of age or older and must hold a current CPR Certification.

Also, it is highly recommended that you are current in American Red Cross First Aid. Attendance at this class is recommended for mature individuals fourteen and older. All Scout youth participants must have Scoutmaster or Unit Leader's recommendation. Non-Scout youth must be accompanied by a responsible adult. This class requires a mature attitude and is physically challenging… and a lot of fun! This special program is being led by Red Cross Instructors from the Troop 1000 First Aid Team. www.T1000.org

NOTE: All Philmont crews starting in 2009 are required to have a Wilderness First Aid trained individual in their crew. Download a great Wilderness First Aid article from the March-April 2002 issue of Scouting at http://www.scoutcpr.org/documents/ScoutingPageWFAB.PDF
