C10
is offering a BSA Climbing Instructor course, with a Tower Only option, to
prepare units (Troops, Crews, Ships, Teams, etc) to take advantage of this high
adventure activity. The course provides the
necessary skills to conduct Scout climbing activities and makes equipment
available. All sessions are mandatory
for completion (except option Sid day of climbing).
BSA Climbing Instructor –
gives the student the knowledge to take their unit rock & tower climbing. It allows the instructor to use C10’s
climbing equipment. This course is
designed after the Texas Mountaineers beginning course with BSA particulars
taught at

Granite Climb Friday Option – the Granite Climb is an
intense two day session at two different Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reserve
(WMWR) sites. For those having Sunday
conflicts, there is an option available to make up the Sunday class on the
Friday before, depending on instructor availability.
Tower Only Option– qualified to use the C10 Cherokee climbing
tower & equipment with a reciprocal agreement with Longhorn Council. A 10 hours course. This is for those who will only be taking
their units to the
All Scouters and youth
members of BSA 14 and older are eligible.
Youth must be mature, have unit leader approval, and their parents/guardian
complete a permission form. Students
& instructors must be in good physical condition and provide a current BSA
physical form.
Mandatory Prerequisites before the first
class:
Climb
on Safely online – must have a current card, Read
Topping Out and the Climbing MB pamphlet
Highly
recommended reading - “Freedom of the Hills”, 7th edition
Read
current BSA COPE/Climbing Rappelling Standards, Know knots – list available
upon sign up.
Fees non
refundable - $75 (Tower Only, $25). This does not include transportation, materials,
food, and some other fees. For the rock portion
some equipment is needed and will be covered during the introduction class
& prior emails. More details upon
registration. Registration is made
directly with me and checks are made out to me (note funds used for class
expenses & Circle Ten equipment).
